Recognise the situation
A QR code presented as a refund or incoming payment may actually initiate a payment from you.
Protect yourself now
Read the payment app screen and payee before approving anything. Do not enter a UPI PIN or scan a payment QR to receive money.
What to preserve
Keep the QR image, source message, displayed payee and any transaction reference. Do not scan it again while collecting evidence.
Reporting and next steps
For money lost, call 1930 promptly and contact your bank through its verified channel. Report cybercrime at cybercrime.gov.in and keep the acknowledgement. Chakshu on Sanchar Saathi is for suspected fraudulent communications; it does not replace reporting a crime or money lost. Contact local police for immediate threats; call 112 in immediate danger.
For your complaint, record what happened, when, the platform, amount and transaction references if any, and the evidence you have. Leave unknown facts blank. A draft is not a filed report. Human assistance can help organise complex facts, but cannot guarantee recovery.
