Recognise the situation
A caller or message may disguise a UPI payment request as a refund or reward.
Protect yourself now
Stop approving unfamiliar requests. A UPI PIN authorises a payment; do not enter it to receive money. Contact your bank through its official app or website.
What to preserve
Keep the transaction reference, date, amount, recipient VPA and original messages. Never share the PIN or an OTP.
Reporting and next steps
For money lost, call 1930 promptly and contact your bank through its verified channel. Report cybercrime at cybercrime.gov.in and keep the acknowledgement. Chakshu on Sanchar Saathi is for suspected fraudulent communications; it does not replace reporting a crime or money lost. Contact local police for immediate threats; call 112 in immediate danger.
For your complaint, record what happened, when, the platform, amount and transaction references if any, and the evidence you have. Leave unknown facts blank. A draft is not a filed report. Human assistance can help organise complex facts, but cannot guarantee recovery.
